Opening Jars

the small things we remember

Oftentimes, while in the bakery, I go to open a jar of any sort, and two dear women friends come to mind. They both shared a kitchen trick with me a long time ago, and this was way before we had hand issues (you know what I’m talking about)!

How to open jars, two ways;

One My pal Marcia taught me many things in life, but what I recall most is how to open a cold jar.  Let it warm up a bit, turn the jar over, and give the bottom a good whack. You hear a POP! and the jar opens easily. I think this was an old bartender trick.

Two My high school pal, Patty taught me to put a rubber band over the top of any jar and give it a sharp twist. Works every time, and a good reminder to keep a handful of rubber bands in a drawer somewhere near you in the kitchen. And yes sometimes you need to run the jar under hot water, to expand the top a bit, it works, but wastes water.

At Ellenbeth Bakery how you enjoy everything we make is considered from start to finish.

We make sure that anyone can easily open all of our baked goods and love them as much as we do - no rubber bands, hard whacks, or hot water required!
